One of the most common questions we get before a client commits to EffyTrack is: what does the installation actually involve? How long does it take, does the vehicle need to come off the road, and what happens if a device fails six months later? This guide covers the full process from sign-off to live tracking.
How Long Does GPS Tracker Installation Take?
For a standard vehicle — a car, van, or light truck — installation takes 30 to 60 minutes per vehicle. For heavier equipment with more complex wiring, such as tankers, buses, or construction machinery, allow 60 to 90 minutes. We handle up to 20 vehicles per day from our Doha installation team. For fleets larger than 20 vehicles, we can schedule installations across multiple days or arrange a team for a single-day deployment.
Does the Vehicle Come Off the Road?
For the duration of the installation only. Most clients schedule installations during quiet periods — early morning, during Friday prayers, or over the weekend. We work around your operations. For critical vehicles that cannot be taken offline during business hours, we can arrange early starts from 6am.
What Gets Installed?
The standard EffyTrack installation includes a Teltonika GPS device connected to the vehicle’s power supply, with a backup battery that keeps the device reporting for up to 8 hours if main power is cut. The device connects via a Qatar-network data SIM that is managed and paid for by Effy Solutions — no SIM costs to manage on your side. The device is installed in a discreet location that is secure but accessible for servicing.
For vehicles requiring RFID driver identification, a reader is installed near the dashboard. For fuel monitoring, a sensor is fitted to the fuel tank. For temperature monitoring in cold-chain vehicles, a probe is installed in the cargo area.
What About MOTC Compliance Documentation?
We handle all MOTC compliance paperwork as part of the installation. After installation, we provide a completion certificate for each vehicle that satisfies the MOTC IVMS registration requirement. You do not need to do anything separately with MOTC — we manage the documentation on your behalf.
What Happens When a Device Fails?
Teltonika hardware is highly reliable, but devices do occasionally fail — usually due to electrical surges or physical damage during vehicle servicing. When a device stops reporting, our monitoring systems flag it automatically. We contact you within 4 hours and arrange a replacement installation, typically within 24 to 48 hours. Replacement hardware is covered under the subscription.
How Soon Can You Start?
We can typically schedule an initial installation within 3 to 5 working days of signing up. For urgent requirements — for example, if a vehicle registration renewal is imminent — call us on +974 66099033 and we will prioritise. We have handled same-day installations for urgent compliance cases.
